MOHALI, June 28 — In one of Punjab’s most aggressive anti-narcotics campaigns in recent years, the Mohali police have registered 360 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act between March 1 and June 25, 2025, leading to the arrest of 563 individuals. The intensified operation is part of the state’s flagship campaign Yudh Nashian Virudh (War Against Drugs).
Significant seizures were made during the campaign, including 4.338 kg of heroin, 83.235 kg of poppy husk, 58.949 kg of ganja, 51.776 kg of opium, 3.129 kg of charas, and 1.830 kg of cocaine. Additionally, small quantities of narcotic powder and syrup were recovered, along with ₹17.43 lakh in drug money.
Police also targeted the infrastructure sustaining the drug trade. Six properties linked to known peddlers — including houses, roadside tea stalls, and rented rooms — were demolished in areas such as Jandpur, Lalru, Amlala, and Kharar. Notorious offenders like Lakhan of Lalru and Dilpreet Singh alias Billa from Chatoli were among those targeted in these asset actions.
“This is not just about making arrests,” said Superintendent of Police (SP) Deepika Singh. “We are detecting, investigating, and acting against every part of the drug network — from peddlers to property. This is not a one-time drive. It will continue with full force. Future offenders will face strict action.”
SP Singh added that enforcement efforts are being paired with rehabilitation initiatives for drug users. “Breaking the demand cycle is just as important as cutting off supply. We are working on both fronts.”
Police sources confirmed that further raids and arrests are expected in the coming weeks as part of the expanded crackdown. Senior officials say the campaign is aimed at not only reducing drug availability but also sending a strong deterrent message by dismantling the economic and logistical foundations of the narcotics network.
