Mohali, Dec. 29 — Allottees of Sectors 76 to 80 in Mohali welcomed the Punjab Cabinet’s decision to reduce the enhancement amount imposed by GMADA, calling it a major step after years of uncertainty and financial pressure.
Under the Cabinet decision, the enhancement rate has been brought down from Rs 3,164 to Rs 2,325 per square meter. The move follows sustained representations by residents and an anti-enhancement committee formed to pursue the matter with the state government.
Sukhdev Singh Patwari, a councillor and convener of the Anti-Enhancement Committee, said the issue had affected families for more than a decade.
“Allottees were struggling for years and paying huge interest due to delays and unresolved land issues,” Patwari said. “This decision has come because of continuous follow-up by MLA Kulwant Singh.”
The committee, which included Rajiv Vasist, Sukhchain Singh, Charanjit Kaur, Jarnail Singh and Major Singh, held multiple meetings with the Chief Minister, the chief secretary, senior housing department officials and GMADA authorities.
According to Patwari, GMADA eventually forwarded a proposal recommending a reduction of Rs 849 per square meter, which formed the basis of the Cabinet’s approval.
MLA Kulwant Singh said he remained committed to addressing constituency-level concerns. “People should not suffer because of administrative delays,” he said. “This decision provides significant relief, and we will continue to work toward resolving remaining issues.”

Residents and committee members expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann for clearing the proposal and said the decision would ease the financial burden on hundreds of allottees across the affected sectors.
