Monsoon Rains Gridlock Key States

Authorities deploy emergency teams amid heavy weather forecasts

by TheReportingTimes

New Delhi, July 9: Massive traffic congestion, flash floods, and landslides have affected multiple states from North to South as an intensifying monsoon season impacts infrastructure and daily commutes. Emergency rescue teams have successfully relocated thousands of residents from inundated areas while state administrations work to restore disrupted road and rail links.

“The situation is being monitored closely,” Union Home Minister Amit Shah asserted after reviewing emergency preparedness with regional leaders. He affirmed that federal resources are fully available to mitigate the impact of the ongoing weather pattern.

In Gujarat, relentless precipitation forced the evacuation of thousands of residents from low-lying areas in Surat, where food distribution drives are underway for stranded high-rise inhabitants. Local authorities confirmed that rain-related incidents claimed nine lives over recent days, while waterlogging in south Gujarat and the Vasai-Virar section caused extensive delays for long-distance trains.

The national capital region also encountered heavy spells, with areas like Mayur Vihar and Pusa recording significant rainfall that slowed traffic on major arterial routes, including the Delhi-Jaipur Highway. In southern India, intermittent rain complicated rescue efforts in Wayanad, Kerala, where teams searched for missing individuals after a mound of excavated earth shifted at a project site, while northern areas in Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan continued to manage local flooding.
