Chandigarh, Dec 14: The political sparring intensified on Saturday after Navjot Kaur Sidhu took on former Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, days after he dismissed her controversial claims as false and termed both her and her husband “unstable.”
Responding on X, Navjot referred to Amarinder Singh’s exit from the Congress and his subsequent move to the BJP. “Punjab is worried. I just wanted to add why didn’t you clear Navjot Sidhu’s files which were so important for Punjab’s growth?” she wrote, adding that issues related to mining and liquor policies raised several unanswered questions.
“You have so many questions to answer which will not fit into my 100 tweets,” she added.
Amarinder Singh hit back, saying Navjot Singh Sidhu had held only three portfolios during the previous Congress government — local bodies, tourism and cultural affairs, and sports.
“As such, he had nothing to do with the excise policy, the mining policy and the medical tourism issue since these departments were held by me, Sukhbinder Sarkaria and Brahm Mohindra, respectively,” Amarinder said.
Questioning Navjot’s claims, he asked how Sidhu could have handled files related to departments he never held. “Public policies are framed by the departments concerned and finally approved by the Cabinet,” the former CM said.
“Once approved, it is the responsibility of the minister concerned to ensure its implementation. I never interfered with the working of any minister,” Amarinder added.
He further claimed that Sidhu was often slow in clearing files. “I had already said some days ago that Sidhu was not in the habit of clearing files for several months and I had to call him for an explanation,” Amarinder said.
