Patiala, Jan 22: Patiala’s administrative leadership saw a change on Thursday as Varjit Walia took over the office of the Deputy Commissioner. Walia, who transitions from his previous posting in Rupnagar, replaces Dr. Preeti Yadav. The ceremony was attended by his wife, IRS officer Tania Bains, and their son, Vartaj Walia, as local officials gathered to greet the incoming head of the district administration.

While discussing his vision for the district, Walia directly said that the timely delivery of public services and the completion of infrastructure projects would be central to his office. He noted the importance of ensuring that health initiatives, particularly the Chief Minister’s Health Scheme, reach every household effectively.

“I will also make great efforts to provide government services to the people in a transparent and time-bound manner,” Walia said.

The Deputy Commissioner noted that he would be working closely with various departments to maintain the momentum of existing reforms in the education sector. He mentioned that the guidelines provided by the state leadership would serve as a roadmap for district-level governance.

Walia was welcomed at the district headquarters by a delegation of officials including SP Vaibhav Chaudhary, ADC Damanjit Singh Mann, and Municipal Corporation Joint Commissioner Deepjot Kaur. The arrival marked the start of a tenure expected to focus heavily on social welfare and administrative accountability.
