Ludhaina, Feb 1: Ludhiana’s industrial sector received a significant boost on Sunday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the terminal building at Halwara airport via video conferencing. The event will be held alongside the renaming of the Adampur airport to Sri Guru Ravidas Ji Airport, a move that aligns with the celebrations of Guru Ravidas Jayanti across the region.
The Halwara terminal spans 2,000 square metres and is equipped to handle approximately 300 passengers during peak hours. The project has been a priority for regional leaders looking to enhance the Malwa region’s infrastructure. While the airport is now officially open, the facility will see its first commercial flights in March 2026 following approvals from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security.
Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu mentioned that the operationalisation of the site would significantly improve regional air travel. He noted that the joint venture between the state and central authorities was aimed at meeting the growing demand for connectivity in northern India.
Reflecting on the impact for Ludhiana, MP Sanjeev Arora said the completion of the airport was the result of years of sustained follow-up. “This will drastically cut travel time for industry and exporters, improve connectivity and strengthen Punjab’s position as a manufacturing and investment hub,” Arora said regarding the economic potential of the new site.
The Prime Minister’s itinerary included a visit to Dera Sachkhand Ballan in Jalandhar. The renaming of the Adampur facility was welcomed by local representatives as a tribute to the spiritual heritage of the area. Governor Gulab Chand Kataria and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will present at the Adampur ceremony to mark the dual milestones in Punjab’s aviation landscape.
