MOHALI, Dec 30: A late-night road accident near Phase 8 claimed the life of a 22-year-old man and left three others injured after two SUVs rammed into each other head-on, officials said Monday.

The crash took place around 2 a.m., leaving both vehicles badly mangled. Sahib Deep Singh, who was travelling in one of the SUVs, suffered fatal injuries and died during treatment.

“The injured were immediately shifted to a local hospital,” a police officer said. “Their condition is serious, and they are being closely monitored.”

Police have registered a case of negligent driving at the Phase 8-B police station and are examining CCTV footage from the area to reconstruct the sequence of events.

According to the victim’s family, Sahib Deep Singh was the only son in the household. He is survived by his parents and a sister who lives abroad for higher studies.

Residents of the area said accidents have become frequent on the stretch late at night, prompting renewed calls for stricter enforcement of traffic rules and speed limits.
