Parliament to debate Op Sindoor for 16 hours from July 29

by TheReportingTimes

NEW DELHI, July 23 — A 16-hour special discussion on Operation Sindoor is scheduled to take place in both houses of Parliament starting July 29, following a consensus reached during the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting of the Rajya Sabha, sources confirmed on Wednesday.

The discussion, set during the ongoing Monsoon Session, is expected to see active participation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Meanwhile, opposition parties have demanded that the Prime Minister personally address the Houses and speak to the nation on what they called a “critical national issue.”

According to reports, the Rajya Sabha will take up the discussion on July 29, while a corresponding session in the Lok Sabha is also being planned for next week. Sixteen hours have been earmarked across both houses.

The political spotlight intensified after former US President Donald Trump once again claimed credit for mediating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan under Operation Sindoor. His remarks drew a sharp reaction from the opposition, who accused the Modi government of silence and evasion.

“Trump has made this claim 25 times in the last 73 days, yet the Prime Minister hasn’t responded even once,” Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said. “Those who call themselves deshbhakts have run away. The PM finds time to travel abroad and destabilise institutions at home but can’t answer this.”

The Congress lashed out further, saying Modi’s silence is in stark contrast to Trump’s repeated assertions, calling it a matter of national concern.

As anticipation builds for the upcoming session, the government is yet to officially respond to the opposition’s demand for the Prime Minister’s formal address on the floor of the House.
