ROPAR, May 7 — Asserting that the sanctity of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is now protected by a rigorous legal framework, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann dedicated the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act 2026 to the people of Punjab on Wednesday. The Chief Minister affirmed that the new law effectively ends the era where political masters could shield those responsible for “beadbi” or sacrilege.
Chief Minister Mann stated that the desecration of the holy scripture was often part of a deep-rooted conspiracy to destabilize the brotherhood and peace of the region. He maintained that while previous governments ordered action against peaceful protesters, his administration has focused on the root of the issue by mandating exemplary punishment for offenders. He declared that the Guru Granth Sahib Ji holds the status of a father to every Sikh, and the government considers its protection a sacred duty.
“Anyone found guilty of beadbi will now face strict punishment under this new law; no one will dare commit this heinous crime again,” the Chief Minister stated. He affirmed that the legislative move has stripped the political relevance of those who once claimed they would rule for decades but are now pushed into oblivion. He noted that the public has recognized the “political gimmicks” used by former leaders who frequently changed their stances to suit their interests.
The Chief Minister concluded by reaffirming his commitment to the welfare of the state, contrasting his hands-on approach with leaders who remain distant from the public. He stated that the Shukrana Yatra, which concludes on May 9, is a journey of gratitude to the Almighty for granting the strength to implement such a vital law. He affirmed that his government remains focused on serving the people and ensuring that those who looted the state or encouraged social evils face the consequences of their actions.
