Amritsar, Sept 25: Law enforcement agencies in Amritsar initiated search operations after a suspect in a high-profile attack on a police official escaped while under police escort. The individual, identified as Karan from Jhanjhoti village, managed to flee as officers were transporting him to the Majitha area to locate evidence tied to the case.
Administrative action followed the development, with Rajasansi Police Station House Officer Inspector Gurpreet Singh facing suspension orders issued by Senior Superintendent of Police Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal over procedural gaps. Local police officials declined to share detailed comments on the operational lapses that enabled the escape.
Karan had been taken into custody following the September 11 shooting of Assistant Sub-Inspector Jaswant Singh, who suffered minor head injuries when gunfire grazed his turban along a roadway in Rajasansi. Investigators relied on surveillance footage to track and arrest the suspect before securing court permission for extended custodial interrogation, which was underway when the escape occurred.
