New Delhi, Sept 15: A public delegation from Ajnala, headed by AAP MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, presented a memorandum to Union Jal Shakti Minister C. R. Patil seeking immediate central clearance for the Ujh Dam project.

The representative declared that generations of Ajnala residents have suffered continuous financial and infrastructural setbacks due to unchecked river swelling during the monsoon season. Dhaliwal maintained that industrial investment in the border belt remains stagnant due to persistent flood risks, making comprehensive river management essential for long-term economic development.

Union Ministry officials were briefed on the multi-purpose benefits of the proposed dam, including controlled water discharge into Punjab’s rivers and enhanced canal networks. Dhaliwal declared that the central government must prioritize the border region’s security and welfare by taking prompt steps to commence construction.
