CHANDIGARH: AAP MLA Manwinder Singh Giaspura addressed reporters regarding the ongoing Special Investigation Team proceedings into the 2015 sacrilege and police firing cases, asserting that full justice must be delivered to the victims’ families. The legislator declared that the public will not forget the events surrounding the theft of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and the subsequent police action against peaceful protesters in Kotkapura and Behbal Kalan.
The AAP leader maintained that court records and official statements contradict former Home Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal’s assertions of being unaware of the theft and being away during the incidents. Giaspura affirmed that information regarding the theft had reached Badal’s personal office, and that administrative directions were being issued during the escalation of police action.
Giaspura further stated that any proposed political alignment between SAD and the BJP is aimed at securing political protection in these ongoing legal cases rather than serving regional interests. He maintained that the political leadership had compromised agricultural interests during the farmers’ movement and continues to seek central backing to avoid legal consequences.
Concluding his address, Giaspura declared that the current state government under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has strengthened the legal framework to prevent desecration incidents. He stated that the new legislation providing life imprisonment without bail ensures that those committing acts of sacrilege will face severe judicial consequences.
