Muktsar, Feb 10: A 52-year-old head constable died while on duty during a high-stakes police raid at Warring village early Monday morning.
Lakhvir Singh, who was stationed at Bariwala police station, collapsed around 5:30 am while moving toward the residence of a proclaimed offender. The raid was part of “Operation Prahar 2.0,” a massive coordinated effort to apprehend criminals. While sources noted that Singh, a resident of Kaoni village, was diabetic, officials indicated that a cardiac arrest appears to be the cause of death.
“Head Constable Lakhvir Singh was going for a raid, but died on the way at about 5:30 am,” Bariwala SHO Gurdeep Singh said.
DIG Sanjeev Kumar Rampal, who was present in Muktsar to oversee the law enforcement operation, described the loss as an unfortunate incident for the department. “I have been told that our colleague died of a heart attack. Financial assistance will be provided to the family as per the rules,” the DIG mentioned.
The operation continued throughout the district with a force of 650 personnel. SSP Abhimanyu Rana noted that 37 criminals have been apprehended so far during the 72-hour exercise, which includes 22 checkpoints established across inter-state and inter-district borders.
