PRTC Fleet to Cross 1,850 Mark as Modernization Drive Begins

New ticketing machines and solar-powered depots to drive 57 percent income surge

Chandigarh, March 23: PRTC Chairman Harpal Juneja has outlined a comprehensive roadmap to revitalize the state’s transport sector, focusing on fleet enhancement and digital transparency. In a statement released after his meeting with party leadership, Juneja asserted that the corporation is on track to achieve a 57 percent jump in revenue compared to previous years. The primary driver for this growth will be the addition of 659 new buses, which will significantly expand the corporation’s operational reach.

The Chairman declared that the ongoing recruitment of staff and the introduction of 2,200 electronic ticketing machines are essential steps toward a more professional and accountable transport system. He maintained that these machines would streamline the ticketing process and ensure that every fare is recorded accurately. On the infrastructure front, a new sub-depot is currently being readied at Daula to improve service frequency in the Bathinda region.

In a bid to increase non-fare revenue, the PRTC is venturing into the fuel retail business with three upcoming petroleum outlets. Juneja also stated that the corporation is prioritizing green energy, with solar installations planned for its Patiala headquarters and various depots to slash utility bills. These savings, combined with new revenue streams, are expected to stabilize the corporation’s financial health.

“We are committed to fulfilling our responsibilities with honesty and dedication,” Juneja affirmed, noting that the corporation continues to successfully implement the government’s free travel initiative for women. He also mentioned that the PRTC is looking toward PPP models to construct state-of-the-art bus stands, ensuring that passengers have access to modern amenities across the state.
