Chandigarh, January 5: Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Sunday voiced concern over recent incidents of violence in the state, saying they have led to growing unease among residents.
Reacting to the killing of a sarpanch in Amritsar during wedding celebrations, Warring said the incident has sent a disturbing message.
“When crimes happen in broad public view, it naturally creates fear among people,” he said, adding that such incidents indicate the need for stronger preventive measures.
Warring noted that those involved in recent crimes appeared to act with confidence, which, he said, points to gaps in law enforcement.
“There seems to be a perception that criminals are not sufficiently deterred,” he remarked.
He also referred to a previous incident at a Ludhiana wedding where two people were killed, saying the delay in arrests has added to public concern.
“The fact that the culprits are yet to be arrested even after weeks raises questions in people’s minds,” he said.
Calling for focused efforts to address the situation, Warring said crime control must remain a priority.
“The government and police hold regular review meetings, and people expect these discussions to translate into visible results on the ground,” he said, adding that restoring public confidence should be central to governance.
