Chandigarh, Aug. 17 — The Meteorological Department on Saturday issued a yellow alert for parts of Punjab, warning of heavy rainfall in Pathankot, Hoshiarpur and Rupnagar districts.

Officials said flooding has already begun in Pathankot after 1.5 lakh cusecs of water was released into the Ravi river following heavy downpours in Himachal Pradesh. Several border posts and low-lying areas in Bhoa have been submerged.

In Pathankot district, villages including Dharamkot Patan, Gurchak, Ghaniake Bet, Kalanaur, Chanduwadala and Kamalpur Jata in Dera Baba Nanak constituency, along with Kana, Chautra, Chakri, Salach, Adhi Jainpur and Thakurpur in Dinanagar, have been affected.

The impact of the Himachal rains has also been felt in Hoshiarpur, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala and Fazilka, where floodwaters have begun entering agricultural fields and habitations.

District administrations said precautionary measures are underway, including strengthening weak embankments and deploying teams to monitor vulnerable points.

Authorities have urged residents in low-lying areas to remain alert as rainfall continues across the region.
