Patiala, Jan. 26 — Amitoj, a junior-level equestrian, was honoured with a Recognition Award on Republic Day for his success at the Junior National Equestrian Championship, where he secured a silver medal as part of a team event.

The award was presented by Punjab Education Minister S. Harjot Singh Bains at a Republic Day function in Patiala. MLA Ajitpal Singh Kohli, Member of Parliament Dr. Dharamvir Gandhi and Deputy Commissioner Varjeet Walia attended the ceremony.

Amitoj competed at the national championship held at the Delhi Equestrian Centre in Delhi Cantt in December 2025, where his team finished second against riders from multiple states.

Congratulating the rider, Bains said young sportspersons like Amitoj represent the future of Indian sports. “Achievements at the national level come from years of discipline and commitment, and Amitoj has shown that early in his career,” he said.

According to officials, Amitoj qualified for the championship after clearing national trials in Jaipur and Ajmer, completing clear rounds within the stipulated time. He later added to his record by winning a gold medal in a show jumping competition in Jaipur.

Amitoj is training at Horse Heaven Academy in Jaipur under Satyendra Kumar, a retired Army instructor from NDA (ASC). Kumar said the rider’s preparation has been steady and focused.

“He approaches every competition with seriousness and respect for the sport,” Kumar said. “That mindset helps young riders handle pressure at bigger events.”

The recognition, officials said, was aimed at encouraging young athletes who have brought distinction to the state through national-level performances.
