Ropar, Himachal Police Launch Joint Anti-Drug Drive

by TheReportingTimes

ROPAR, June 21 – In an intensified crackdown on drug trafficking, the Ropar Police, in coordination with their Himachal Pradesh counterparts, conducted a joint operation along the inter-state border on Friday to dismantle supply chains and arrest offenders.

Ropar SSP Gulneet Singh Khurana said that so far, 118 individuals struggling with drug addiction have been admitted to de-addiction centres in the district. Of these, 83 were enrolled in government-run Nasha Mukti Kendras over the past three months as part of a focused rehabilitation initiative. Another 35 addicts were admitted separately, underscoring the administration’s two-pronged approach: enforcement and recovery.

“Helping these individuals begin a new chapter is as important as breaking the supply chain,” said Khurana. “We are determined to fight the drug menace with both compassion and strict enforcement.”

As part of the Yudh Nashian Virudh (War Against Drugs) campaign launched on March 1, the district police have registered 220 FIRs and arrested 346 drug traffickers under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The seizures have been substantial. Police have confiscated:

  • 285 kg of poppy husk
  • 862 gm heroin
  • 877 gm opium
  • 566 gm charas
  • 430 gm ganja
  • 15,275 intoxicating pills and capsules
  • 352 injectable drugs
  • 3.228 kg of intoxicating powder
  • Rs 2,56,835 in drug proceeds

To prevent cross-border smuggling, joint inter-state checkpoints have been established by the Punjab and Himachal Pradesh Police, targeting drug routes and traffickers operating across the border.

“We’re adopting an integrated approach by combining rigorous law enforcement with sustained rehabilitation efforts,” SSP Khurana said. “This fight is not just about arresting dealers, but also about restoring lives.”
