Rupnagar, May 5: With the monsoon season nearing, the Rupnagar district administration has launched its annual preparedness campaign to curb potential damage from flooding and ensure swift response capabilities across vulnerable areas.
In a review meeting involving officials from multiple departments, the administration assessed existing flood management protocols and called for heightened coordination to handle any emergencies arising from seasonal rainfall.
“All departments must complete their preparations without delay and maintain readiness at all levels,” a senior official directed during the session.
Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) of Rupnagar, Morinda, Nangal, Chamkaur Sahib, and Anandpur Sahib have been instructed to personally inspect dams, embankments, and canals in their respective areas.
They have also been tasked with implementing preventive steps to strengthen flood defenses before the rains set in.
In tandem, executive officers of municipal councils and nagar panchayats have been asked to ensure thorough cleaning of choes (seasonal streams), rivulets, and drainage systems.
The effort aims to reduce waterlogging and mitigate the risk of flash flooding in urban and semi-urban pockets.
The administration emphasized maintaining a high-alert status throughout the monsoon period to safeguard lives and infrastructure.
