Samaritans Rebuild Flood-Hit School in Sultanpur Lodhi

by TheReportingTimes

Sultanpur Lodhi, October 13 —Members of the Ludhiana Ophthalmological Society and local volunteers have helped restore the Government Primary School in Baupur Jadid, one of the worst-affected institutions in the recent floods.

The school, which had lost nearly all its infrastructure and supplies, has been revived with donations including fans, desks, tables, chairs, a water cooler, inverter, podium, RO filter, and other essentials. These contributions have allowed the school to reopen its doors to 35 students after weeks of disruption.

“After the floods, everything in the school was damaged. We were left with nothing,” said staff members.

Yadwinder Singh, a schoolteacher, expressed gratitude for the timely help. “The Ludhiana Ophthalmological Society contacted us a week ago, and today they provided us with everything we needed. We are extremely grateful,” he said.

Apart from rebuilding infrastructure, the society also distributed stationery and learning materials among the students. Teachers called the children to school for the distribution, which brought smiles back to their faces.

Yadwinder Singh, who is also associated with the Government Teachers Union, has been actively aiding flood-affected families. The union extended assistance to several students whose homes were destroyed.

Among the beneficiaries was Raj Kaur, the school’s cook, whose house was swept away during the floods. She received ₹21,000 in financial aid. A Class VI student living in a damaged house was given ₹5,100, while two others whose homes were completely destroyed received ₹11,000 each.

With the efforts of compassionate citizens and organisations, the school has regained its footing — once again offering a safe and nurturing learning space for its young students.
