Rohtak, 1 December: Eleven people were injured after a school bus and another bus crashed at Lakhan Majra on Monday morning, leaving seven students hurt, police said.
The accident occurred around 8 a.m. when the private school bus struck a bus carrying a wedding party. “Passers-by acted immediately and helped shift the injured to PGIMS,” superintendent of police Surender Singh Bhoria said.
Two 11-year-old students and the school bus driver were admitted to the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences. Doctors described their condition as stable. Five other children were treated and released shortly after. The second bus’s driver, a 27-year-old woman, and an 11-year-old passenger were also among the injured.
Deputy commissioner Sachin Gupta visited PGIMS later in the day to speak with the injured students and staff.
The incident adds to a troubling pattern of crashes involving schoolchildren in the state. In April, six students were killed in Mahendragarh when a drunken driver overturned a bus whose fitness certificate had lapsed years earlier. In July, an overloaded Haryana Roadways mini-bus toppled near Pinjore, injuring 46 people, including dozens of schoolchildren. A 2010 Bhiwani collision had also left six children, a teacher and a driver dead.
