Chamba, August 11: Police launched a multi-team search along the Ravi River in Chamba after a six-year-old child was allegedly thrown off the Parel bridge by his father. The incident occurred following marital discord between the suspect, Hitesh, and his spouse, Sharika, who had recently separated following unresolved domestic disputes. According to official reports, the family had sought intervention from the local women’s police station last month, after which the mother moved to Amritsar with their younger child, leaving six-year-old Gagandeep in his father’s care. Chamba Superintendent of Police Vijay Kumar Saklani affirmed that search operations remain active, though the child has not yet been traced.
Police authorities confirmed that Sadar Chamba police station registered a formal case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita to investigate the incident. Senior police officers, including Additional Superintendent of Police Dinesh Sharma, inspected the crime scene and deployed search teams along key downstream locations. Police officials stated that while search efforts continue uninterrupted along the river, investigators are examining all circumstances surrounding the domestic conflict to determine the exact motive behind the alleged act.
