Sond launches ₹1.56 cr projects in Khanna villages

Khanna, September 29: Rural Development and Panchayats Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond on Sunday rolled out development works worth ₹1.56 crore across five villages of the Khanna constituency, stressing the role of panchayats in driving village progress.

Speaking at multiple inaugural events, Sond opened a series of projects including a panchayat bhawan in Goh village costing ₹40 lakh, sewerage and street works in Korhi village worth ₹7 lakh, a library in Ikolahi village for ₹35.85 lakh, another panchayat bhawan in Panjrukha village built at a cost of ₹40 lakh, and drains, sewerage works and a library in Beeja village costing ₹20 lakh and ₹14 lakh, respectively.

The minister also announced new sports facilities, with modern playgrounds planned for Goh (₹40 lakh), Korhi (₹14 lakh), Ikolahi (₹28 lakh) and Panjrukha (₹31 lakh).

Sond told the gatherings that panchayats are vital to ensuring development reaches every household. “It is the responsibility of the panchayat to execute welfare works after consulting the people,” he said. He assured sarpanches and panches that “there will be no shortage of funds for development projects” and urged them to remain the voice of their communities.

He further noted that panchayats serve as “a bridge between the government and the villages,” adding that the pace of rural development must accelerate to bring prosperity. Calling for dedicated efforts to improve village living conditions, Sond urged local bodies to make their villages “clean, green and pollution-free.”
