CHANDIGARH, AUGUST 25 — Rebuffing claims made by opposition leaders, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema affirmed that state spending on religious and spiritual events represents a constructive use of public revenue. The minister declared that preserving historical traditions remains a key priority for the state administration.
“The Bhagwant Mann government is committed to using public funds meaningfully for initiatives that preserve the state’s heritage and strengthen the younger generation’s connection with its religious and cultural traditions,” asserted Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema. He declared that programs commemorating major spiritual milestones allow citizens across the state to honor historical sacrifices and ethical principles.
Addressing public pilgrimage initiatives, the minister maintained that state support enables elderly devotees and economically weaker households to fulfill long-standing desires to visit sacred sites. He added that initiatives like ‘Hamare Ram’ promote inclusivity while broadening the cultural perspective of young students.
Taking aim at the Congress party’s objections, the Finance Minister asserted that criticizing people-centric cultural programs displays a narrow political approach. He affirmed that the administration will maintain its dedicated support for community faith, traditions, and historical preservation.
