State crackdown dismantles major illegal arms supply chains

Police operations yield high recovery of ammunition and pistols

Mohali, June 26: The Punjab Police has dealt a major blow to the infrastructure of organized gangs by intercepting hundreds of weapon consignments over a five-month period. Operating under the specialized ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ initiative, the Anti-Gangster Task Force dismantled multiple logistical networks, seizing a total of 713 illegal firearms, 218 magazines, and over 2,000 live cartridges from various gang accomplices.

DGP Gaurav Yadav affirmed that the timely seizure of these arms effectively disrupted the operational capabilities of various criminal factions. “The Punjab Police has recovered a huge cache of ammunition from time to time, but the weapons recovered from the henchmen of gangsters led to stopping various crimes across the state,” the DGP asserted, reiterating the force’s commitment to eliminating cross-border smuggling.

The investigation revealed that the seized weaponry was slated for distribution among local criminal elements to execute targeted extortions and enforcement activities. A recent breakthrough by the Amritsar Commissionerate Police exposed the international links of these syndicates, resulting in the arrest of eight smugglers carrying 11 high-end pistols.

District-wise breakdowns indicate a heavy concentration of law enforcement pressure in the state’s frontier belts. Specialized drives resulted in the recovery of 243 weapons in Tarn Taran, 201 in Amritsar city, 155 in Ferozepur, and 92 in Amritsar Rural, demonstrating a synchronized approach toward crime prevention.

In a concurrent action, the Ludhiana CIA Staff arrested two individuals embedded within the local supply chain, recovering additional illegal arms. Security analysts noted that the intensified search operations carried out over the past month have significantly constricted the movement of illegal arms.

The top police leadership declared that inter-departmental cooperation remains the cornerstone of this ongoing campaign. The DGP maintained that specialized teams will continue to pursue the financial and material backers of these gangs to ensure permanent peace and security across the state.
