Tanda Siblings Win Local Elections in Germany

Harpreet Kaur Sandhu re-elected to City Parliament; younger sister Kamalpreet joins local governance

Tanda, April 22: Two Punjab-born sisters have made history in Germany by winning seats in the country’s local electoral system, bringing international recognition to their home district of Hoshiarpur. Harpreet Kaur Sandhu reaffirmed her standing in the community by securing a second term in the Stadtparlament and the Foreigners’ Advisory Council, while her sister, Kamalpreet Kaur, also found success in the recent polls.

The sisters moved to Germany about 12 to 15 years ago to join their father, who has lived there for three decades. Relatives in Rara village asserted that the family has never lost touch with their heritage, visiting the village regularly prior to the pandemic. Amarjit Singh Sandhu, a relative and farmer union leader, declared that the achievement of the two daughters has elevated the pride of the entire region. He stated that their accomplishments abroad bring great honor to the family and the community at large.

Reflecting on her re-election, Harpreet Kaur Sandhu stated that she is grateful for the trust and support shown by the voters. She maintained that she intends to work hard to fulfill the public’s expectations over her five-year term. She also asserted the importance of democratic engagement, stating that every person who believed in their vision contributed to this win.

The success of the Sandhu sisters is being viewed as a landmark moment for the Tanda region. Amarjit Singh affirmed that this global recognition provides a sense of pride to the village and stated that it inspires young people to strive for excellence on the world stage. He maintained that the entire region feels a sense of ownership over this victory, which he declared a historic milestone for their family and the village of Rara.
