Tarn Taran, Oct 6 — The bypoll for Punjab’s Tarn Taran Assembly constituency will be held on November 11, the Election Commission of India announced on Monday. Counting of votes will take place on November 14.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar said the Tarn Taran bypoll will be held alongside seven other Assembly by-elections across the country, including Budgam and Nagrota in Jammu and Kashmir.
The announcement came as the Commission also unveiled the schedule for the Bihar Assembly elections, which will take place in two phases — on November 6 and November 11 — with the results for both Bihar and the bypoll constituencies to be declared on November 14.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, the CEC said the poll process will be conducted with “complete transparency and zero tolerance for violence.” He added that all necessary security measures are being taken to ensure a peaceful and fair election.
In Bihar, more than 7.42 crore voters, including 14 lakh first-time voters and 4 lakh senior citizens, are eligible to cast their ballots across 90,712 polling stations. At least 14,000 voters in the state are aged above 100 years.
Kumar said clear directions have been issued to local administrations to prevent any attempt at voter intimidation or disruption of the polling process. “There is no scope for any threat to voters or candidates,” he noted.
Officials said detailed guidelines for the Tarn Taran bypoll, including the nomination schedule and expenditure limits, will be issued by the Punjab Chief Electoral Officer in the coming days.
