Administrative secretaries to meet following CM-level discussion

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, January 27: A new timeline for the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal negotiations has been established following a cordial meeting between the Chief Ministers of Punjab and Haryana. Bhagwant Mann and Nayab Singh Saini concluded their Tuesday session with a commitment to transition the dialogue to technical teams within the next two weeks.

The meeting serves as a follow-up to previous directions issued by the Supreme Court, which has encouraged the neighboring states to find an amicable solution to the water infrastructure project. Both administrations described the atmosphere of the talks as constructive.

“Both leaders agreed to carry forward the ongoing positive dialogue,” a spokesperson mentioned after the leaders emerged from the 30-minute meeting.

The presence of Irrigation Minister Shruti Choudhry and Punjab Minister Birender Goyal underscored the importance of the gathering. They were joined by a cohort of senior bureaucrats who will now take the lead in the upcoming secretary-level consultations.

These specialized sessions are intended to pave the way for more concrete developments. The administrative teams are expected to report back their findings and potential frameworks for cooperation shortly after their meeting.

“Action will be taken within the next fortnight after the secretary-level talks are completed,” officials said regarding the scheduled progress.
