Chandigarh, Jan 28. — Several schools in Chandigarh were evacuated on Wednesday after bomb threats were received through emails, leading to heightened security and temporary closure of affected campuses.

According to officials, at least five private schools — St. Kabir, Vivek High School, Bhavan Vidyalaya, Sacred Heart School and Chitkara School — received the threatening messages. A few government-run schools were also placed on alert.

Following the alerts, police teams rushed to the schools and oversaw the evacuation of students and staff. Children already inside the campuses were moved to safe areas, while others were sent home as a precaution.

“We received information from school authorities early in the morning and immediately deployed teams to all locations mentioned in the emails,” a Chandigarh Police officer said. “Bomb detection squads were called to conduct detailed searches.”

Emergency sirens were heard in some areas as security agencies carried out checks. Bomb disposal units examined classrooms, corridors and open areas of the school premises.

School officials said the decision to evacuate was taken swiftly to avoid any risk. “We did not want to take any chances. Parents were informed and students were safely handed over,” said a school administrator.

Police officials said efforts are being made to identify the sender of the emails. “Such threats are taken seriously, and strict action will be taken once the source is traced,” the officer added.

No explosives or suspicious materials were found during the searches, officials said, adding that security remains tight as investigations continue.
