Jalandhar, Jan 31: A multi-layered security operation is underway in Jalandhar following the receipt of threatening emails by three to four local schools. The messages, which surfaced ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Dera Sachkhand Ballan this Sunday, prompted an immediate escalation in protective measures. Despite being sent to school addresses, the threats were directed toward the Dera and the Prime Minister’s scheduled appearance for Guru Ravidas Jayanti.
Law enforcement agencies are treating the matter with significant urgency given the high-profile nature of the event. To bolster safety, 1,500 police officers have been joined by SPG units who arrived in the city earlier this week. DGP Gaurav Yadav mentioned that security frameworks are being strictly monitored to prevent any untoward incidents during the religious celebrations.
The emails contained specific warnings and references to past incidents abroad. A message recovered by investigators read, “Full respect for Guru Ravidas ji, but Modi is the enemy. We have no issues with Sant Niranjan Dass, but with Modi.” The correspondence also alluded to the June 2023 killing of Hardeep Nijjar in Canada as a motive for the threat.
District authorities noted that public safety remains the top priority and that the schools were empty at the time of the threats due to the ongoing shobha yatra. While the origin of the emails is being traced by cyber experts, the Prime Minister’s visit is expected to proceed under the watchful eyes of the state and central forces. Officials directly said that they are leaving nothing to chance as they assess the credibility of the digital warnings.
