Lahaul-Spiti, Jan 5: A video of tourists dancing shirtless on a snow-covered road in Himachal Pradesh has sparked sharp reactions online, with many accusing visitors of endangering public safety and disrespecting local sensibilities.
The viral clip from the Lahaul-Spiti region shows a group of young men blocking a public road, dancing to loud music played from their vehicle. Some are seen carrying liquor bottles and hookahs, while others appear shirtless in sub-zero conditions.
Social media users said the visuals of reckless behaviour amid icy roads and mountainous terrain raise serious concerns. “This is not entertainment, it is a safety hazard,” one user wrote, calling for strict action against those involved.
The video was posted on X with a caption warning that such incidents damage relations between locals and tourists. “Disrespectful behaviour has pushed locals to the edge and ended the warmth they were once known for,” the post read.
Many users said incidents like these explain why several travellers, including foreign tourists, increasingly avoid popular destinations in India and prefer quieter locations. “Such behaviour hurts those who rely on tourism for their livelihood,” a user commented.
Residents say this is not an isolated incident, pointing to similar cases reported across Himachal Pradesh during the holiday season. They have urged authorities to enforce rules more strictly to protect both public order and the fragile mountain environment.
No official response had been issued at the time of filing this report.
