Hoshiarpur, April 3: A Friday afternoon cricket match turned into a scene of mourning in Hoshiarpur district after a lightning bolt struck the playing area, killing one person and injuring two companions. The group of youths was playing in Bakkapur village when a thunderstorm developed unexpectedly, leading to the fatal strike.
Tarandeep, a resident of Rasoolpur village, was pronounced dead on the spot. Law enforcement officials affirmed that the deceased was shifted to the Garhshankar Government Hospital mortuary for further formalities.
Two other victims of the strike were evacuated to Nawanshahr for emergency treatment. They were subsequently moved to a private healthcare facility where they are currently undergoing observation.
“Both had not fully regained consciousness” at the time of the latest medical update, hospital sources stated. However, attending physicians affirmed that the two injured men are currently in stable condition despite the severity of the electrical shock.
The event has left the residents of Rasoolpur and Bakkapur in deep shock. Local leaders affirmed that the tragedy serves as a grim reminder of the dangers posed by the current spell of unpredictable weather in the region.
Authorities have reiterated safety warnings for residents to avoid open fields during thunderstorms. The local administration maintained that they are providing all necessary support to the grieving families during this difficult period.
