CHANDIGARH, June 24 — In a move likely to cause major disruption for railway passengers in Punjab, the Indian Railways has announced the cancellation, short termination, and diversion of several trains between June 27 and July 14 due to non-interlocking work underway in the Sanehwal-Amritsar section of the Ferozepur division.
According to a notification issued by the Railways, the work is being carried out at Jandiala station and will impact both local and long-distance train services. A total of 21 trains have been fully cancelled during this period, including key passenger and intercity services.
The cancelled trains include prominent routes such as the Chandigarh-Amritsar Intercity (12411/12412), Amritsar-Nangal Dam (14505/14506), Amritsar-New Delhi (14679/14680), Amritsar-Haridwar Centenary (12053/12054), and Chandigarh-Amritsar Express (14541/14542). Other affected services are local trains like Jalandhar City-Amritsar Passenger (74641), Amritsar-Qadian (74691/74692), Beas-Tarn Taran (74603/74605), and Bhagtanwala-Khemkaran (74685/74686).
The Shan-e-Punjab Express (12497), running between New Delhi and Amritsar, will terminate at Jalandhar City on July 14. Its return service (12498) will also originate from Jalandhar City instead of Amritsar on that day.
In addition to the cancellations, multiple long-distance trains will be rerouted via alternative lines such as the Amritsar–Tarn Taran–Beas route and the Pathankot–Mukerian–Jalandhar City corridor. Trains affected by the diversions include:
- 12408 (Amritsar–New Jalpaiguri)
- 04652 (Amritsar–Jayanagar)
- 18104 (Amritsar–Tata Nagar)
- 22424 (Amritsar–Gorakhpur)
- 19326 (Amritsar–Indore)
- 14650/14674 (Amritsar–Jayanagar)
- 12317 (Kolkata Terminal–Amritsar)
- 12407 (New Jalpaiguri–Amritsar)
- 15707 (Katihar–Amritsar)
- 22446 (Amritsar–Kanpur Central)
- 22430/22429 (Pathankot–Delhi Junction)
Railway officials acknowledged the inconvenience to travelers and urged them to verify train updates in advance. “Passengers are advised to check the current status of their trains on the official railway website or through the railway helpline before planning their journey,” a railway spokesperson said.
The rail administration said that the engineering work is essential for infrastructure enhancement but assured passengers that normal services would resume after July 14.
