RAIPUR, Jan 3 — At least 14 Maoist cadres were killed on Saturday in two separate encounters with security forces in Chhattisgarh, officials said.
Twelve Maoists were killed during an exchange of fire in a forested area of Sukma district during an anti-Maoist operation, according to official sources. One of those killed was identified as Mangtu, a Divisional Committee Member.
“The operation was launched based on specific inputs, and an encounter followed during the search,” a police official said.
In another operation in Bijapur district, security forces recovered the bodies of two Maoists from the forest area of Gaganpalli village under Basaguda police station. Officials identified one of them as Hunga Madkam.
Arms recovered from the site included a self-loading rifle and a 12-bore firearm, officials said.
Police said the two encounters were part of separate but ongoing operations against Maoist groups in the region.
“Operations are still underway, and search activities in nearby areas have been intensified,” an official said.
