Ferozepur, Apr 27 — Two gangsters were injured, and a third was arrested following a shootout with Ferozepur police on Saturday night.
The suspects, allegedly involved in recent shooting incidents targeting a municipal councillor, were confronted during a police operation.
According to police, officers received a tip-off about suspicious individuals near the road from Number 7 Barrier to the cremation ground in the cantonment area.
A checkpoint was set up, and the suspects, riding a motorcycle with their faces covered, were signaled to stop. Instead, they attempted to flee towards a deserted road leading to the cremation ground.
As police pursued them, the suspects opened fire, prompting police to return fire. In the exchange, two of the gangsters sustained injuries, while the third was apprehended unharmed.
The injured gangsters were identified as Jashan alias Teji, 23, and Gaurav alias Krish, 25, both residents of Baagwali Basti, Ferozepur.
They were taken to the civil hospital, where their condition is reported as stable. The third suspect, Rajan alias Kaali, 26, also from Baagwali Basti, was arrested without injury.
Police recovered several firearms, including a .32 bore country-made pistol, a .30 bore country-made pistol, a local firearm known as a desi katta, a .315 bore desi katta, and a motorcycle.
A case has been registered against the accused at Cantt Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
