NURPUR, JUNE 2: In a weighty breakthrough against cross-border narcotics trafficking, Nurpur district police arrested two Punjab residents attempting to smuggle heroin into Himachal Pradesh late last night.
The arrests were made during a special naka laid at the Bhadroya interstate excise barrier under the jurisdiction of Damtal police station. Police acted on a tip-off and intercepted a car entering from Punjab. A search of the vehicle led to the seizure of 103.07 grams of heroin (chitta) from the possession of the two occupants.
The accused have been identified as Yaadvinder Singh, a resident of Bahini village, and Malkiat Singh of Chheharta, both from Amritsar. Police allege the duo are active members of an interstate drug smuggling network.
“They were trying to transport narcotics across the border when we intercepted them. A case under Sections 21, 25, and 29 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Damtal police station,” said a police spokesperson.
Nurpur Superintendent of Police Ashok Rattan said, “This arrest is part of a wider anti-drug crackdown underway in the district. In the last five months, we have registered 35 cases under the NDPS Act.”
Rattan said the campaign has resulted in the seizure of 762.89 grams of heroin, 10.579 kilograms of charas, and recovery of over ₹1.20 crore in drug proceeds. “We’re committed to tightening the grip on drug networks operating across the Himachal-Punjab border,” he added.
