Mohali, 22 December 2024: Rescue workers recovered a second body from the debris of a collapsed building in Mohali on Sunday, raising the death toll to two. Mohali SDM Damandeep Kaur confirmed the update.
The victim, 24-year-old Abhishek Dhanwal from Ambala, was reportedly trapped after entering the unstable structure to retrieve his phone, locals said. The four-storey building had collapsed Saturday due to excavation work in an adjacent site’s basement.
A 20-year-old woman from Himachal Pradesh was the first casualty, succumbing to her injuries hours after the collapse.
Rescue efforts by NDRF and Army personnel continued for a second day. Police have booked the building’s owners for their alleged role in the incident, with further investigations ongoing.
