UT hikes DC rates by up to 25%, to benefit 20,000 contractual employees

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, August 29 – The UT administration has revised the deputy commissioner (DC) rates for contractual and outsourced employees, enhancing them by an average of 5% and, in some cases, up to 20–25%. The new rates will take effect from April 1, 2025, covering nearly 20,000 workers across departments.

Officials said the order, issued by the deputy commissioner on Thursday, will be available for adoption by all government offices, boards, corporations, public sector undertakings, and autonomous bodies under the Chandigarh administration. Each institution, however, will take its own administrative decision on implementation.

Under the revised structure, a beldar who was drawing ₹21,600 per month will now receive ₹22,680, while an AC operator’s pay has been raised from ₹24,222 to ₹25,433. Similarly, an Ayushman Mitra’s wage has increased from ₹24,222 to ₹30,850, a book binder’s from ₹25,791 to ₹30,850, an eye technician’s from ₹18,058 to ₹25,433, and a clerk-cum-receptionist’s from ₹25,791 to ₹30,850.

The administration said the revision follows sustained representations from employee associations. The Joint Action Committee of employees had earlier demanded a 15% hike in DC rates.

The DC rates are the minimum prescribed wages, benchmarked against pay scales of regular posts. Departments and institutions may grant additional allowances or perks depending on duty hours and the nature of work. The rates notified are calculated for eight-hour shifts, and daily or hourly pay for part-time staff may be worked out accordingly.
