Villagers Capture NRI After Fatal Shooting in Moga

by TheReportingTimes

Moga, December 6— Villagers in Machhike overpowered a US-based NRI on Saturday after he allegedly shot his nephew dead during a violent dispute over land and attempted to escape with his passport.

The accused, Bahadur Singh Sekhon, had a longstanding feud with his nephew Deep Singh, police said. “They argued in the fields, and the accused opened fire with his licensed revolver,” DSP Anbar Ali said. A bullet hit Deep Singh in the forehead, and he collapsed instantly.

Eyewitnesses told police that after the shooting, Sekhon drove his vehicle over the victim. He then rushed to his house, apparently preparing to flee abroad. Villagers surrounded the property until police arrived and detained him.

Two senior officers — DSP Ali and SHO Nihal Singh Wala — reached the spot and began collecting evidence. Deep Singh, the son of a former sarpanch, worked as a commission agent. Sekhon, who frequently traveled between India and the US, has been taken into custody as further inquiry continues. The body has been sent for postmortem.
