Telangana, March 24 — A 23-year-old woman sustained multiple injuries after jumping from a moving train near Secunderabad to escape an alleged rape attempt, Government Railway Police (GRP) said on Monday.

According to police, the incident occurred on the evening of March 22 when the woman, traveling alone in the ladies’ coach of an MMTS (Multi-Modal Transport Service) train from Secunderabad to Medchal, was attacked by a man. In her statement, she said the accused, aged around 25, approached her after two female passengers deboarded at Alwal station. He allegedly demanded sexual favors and, when she refused, tried to assault her. Fearing for her safety, she jumped from the moving train.

“She sustained bleeding injuries on her head, chin, right hand, and waist. Passersby rushed her to a state-run hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment,” a GRP official said. The victim’s condition is stable but she remains under observation, GRP Secunderabad Superintendent of Police G Chandana Deepti said.

The woman, employed in the private sector, told police she had traveled to Secunderabad from Medchal earlier that day to get her mobile phone display repaired. She stated that she could identify the accused if she saw him.

Following her complaint, police registered a case under Sections 75 (assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 131 (use of criminal force) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

“Four teams have been formed to trace the accused,” Deepti said, adding that they are reviewing CCTV footage, gathering eyewitness accounts, and using scientific evidence in the investigation.
