Chandigarh, July 8 — An 18-year-old youth was brutally murdered near the Chandigarh-Mohali border in Maloya on Monday evening, in what police believe was a retaliatory attack following a prior scuffle between two groups.
The victim, identified as Daya, had gone out to get his scooter repaired when he was ambushed and stabbed multiple times by a group of assailants, police said.
According to investigators, the attack was connected to a clash that occurred three days earlier in Jhampur village, Mohali, where Daya and his associates were allegedly involved in a confrontation with the same group now accused of his murder.
“This was not a random act. The attackers had come with the intention of revenge,” a police officer said, adding that both the victim and the suspects are residents of Jhampur.
A case of murder has been registered at the Maloya police station. Authorities said they are identifying and tracking down the accused involved in the fatal stabbing.
An investigation is underway to establish the full sequence of events and the identities of all those involved.
