CHANDIGARH, June 6: Punjab Governor and Union Territory Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria distributed appointment letters to 198 newly recruited trained graduate teachers (TGTs) at a ceremony hosted by the UT education department at Post Graduate Government College for Girls (PGGCG), Sector 42.
The ceremony also saw appreciation certificates awarded to officials who played key roles over the past year in maintaining a fair and transparent recruitment process.
Addressing the gathering, Kataria called teachers the foundation of a progressive society and urged them to stay committed to continuous learning. “India has emerged as a world leader because of the strength of knowledge and education,” he said. “Now is the time to make Chandigarh number one in the field of education.”
He underscored the importance of professional development, stating, “Teachers must never stop learning. The day they stop learning is the day they stop teaching. I urge all educators to take part in regular training programmes and equip students to compete globally with updated knowledge.”
At present, Chandigarh’s education department manages 111 government schools, serving nearly 1.5 lakh students. Of these, 62,021 are enrolled in secondary and senior secondary classes.
The newly inducted TGTs are expected to strengthen teaching capacity across the city’s government institutions.
