FARIDABAD, June 1 — A home guard was injured after being dragged nearly a kilometre on the bonnet of a pickup jeep during a routine police check at Sohna T Point on the Delhi-Mathura road, police said on Sunday.
The incident occurred when the driver of a pickup vehicle, later identified as Kundan, refused to stop at a police checkpoint and hit home guard Gaurav, who clung to the vehicle in an attempt to stop him.
“When I asked for the vehicle documents, the driver sped away, hitting me. I caught hold of the bonnet and clung to the iron net as he drove for nearly a kilometre,” Gaurav stated in his complaint.
The vehicle was eventually stopped by fellow police officers. Gaurav sustained leg injuries and was taken to hospital.
The accused, a resident of Tirkha Colony, told police he fled because he did not possess complete vehicle documents. The pickup was impounded, and a case has been registered at the City Ballabgarh police station.
Police said strict legal action will be taken against the driver for endangering a public servant and attempting to flee from law enforcement.
