AMRITSAR, August 7 — Punjab Police on Wednesday seized seven foreign-made pistols smuggled from Pakistan and arrested four individuals allegedly linked to a cross-border arms supply network operating in the state.
The operation, led by the Amritsar police, uncovered a cache that included high-end weapons — Italy-made PX5 pistols, Austria-manufactured Glock 9mm pistols, and .30-bore handguns.
“These weapons were smuggled from across the border and received near the Indo-Pak boundary. The arrested accused are in direct contact with Pakistan-based smugglers,” said Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
According to the DGP, the arrested men are part of a broader network that channels illegal arms from border villages into the hands of gangsters operating within Punjab.
A case under the Arms Act has been registered at the Chheharta police station, officials said.
Police sources confirmed that investigations are underway to identify additional handlers and links to organised criminal groups in the state. Further arrests are expected as the probe progresses.
