Bhind, August 18: A severe road collision near Chhimka village under Gohad Chauraha police jurisdiction claimed the lives of eight farm workers and left more than 25 injured late Monday night. The workers, all residents of Uttar Pradesh, were travelling back toward Lakhimpur Kheri after finishing field work in Gwalior district when a heavy truck hit their pickup vehicle.
“A truck hit them from the front, resulting in their vehicle overturning, in which some people died and others sustained injuries,” stated one of the surviving workers undergoing treatment.
The injured worker stated that the group had departed from the Chinor area around 7 pm before the crash occurred along National Highway-719 around midnight.
Police personnel from Gohad Chauraha station arrived at the crash site alongside local commuters to clear the highway and transport the casualties to nearby medical facilities.
“Around 25-26 injured people were brought to the hospital, with some reported to be in critical condition while others were stable,” stated Gohad Chauraha police station in-charge Ramnarsh Yadav.
The station in-charge affirmed that five laborers passed away at the crash site, while three others died during emergency medical treatment.
“They had come to the Dabra and Chinor areas for paddy transplanting work and were returning home in Uttar Pradesh when the accident occurred,” Yadav stated, confirming that official probes are underway to determine speed and liability factors.
