Swollen Rivers, Landslides Paralyze Travel Across Dehradun

Dehradun, August 18: Continuous downpours overnight triggered severe waterlogging and river surges across Dehradun, prompting state disaster management agencies to issue urgent safety guidelines for residents and travelers. The ongoing monsoon spell has disrupted connectivity on primary and secondary routes across Uttarakhand.

“Around 97 roads are currently blocked because of rainfall and landslides, with agencies working to clear debris and restore connectivity,” disaster management officials declared.

In view of rising water levels and landslips, the district administration ordered the complete closure of all schools from Classes 1 to 12 and Anganwadi centres across Dehradun.

“The decision was taken in view of the possibility of heavy rainfall forecast by the Meteorological Department and as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and staff,” administrative updates declared.

Weather officials maintained that precipitation will remain elevated across the Garhwal belt, maintaining a yellow weather warning.

“Authorities have advised pilgrims, tourists and residents to plan their journeys according to the latest weather forecast,” state officials declared, urging people to avoid approaching swollen rivers and streams.

Water levels in the Tamsa River near the Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple rose sharply following overnight rain, mirroring previous flood-like conditions in the area. Administrative personnel continue to monitor vulnerable locations as road clearing operations proceed across affected mountain routes.
