Money laundering investigation into Harcharan Singh Bhullar leads to statewide searches

by TheReportingTimes

CHANDIGARH, APRIL 27 — Multiple teams from the Enforcement Directorate launched coordinated searches on Monday morning at residences and offices linked to former Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar and his associates. The action covered 11 distinct sites across the region, including Nabha and Patiala, as part of a widening inquiry into alleged financial irregularities and bribery.

The Enforcement Directorate affirmed that the searches are a response to a prior CBI case involving accusations of disproportionate assets and the solicitation of bribes. Officials declared that the current phase of the investigation focuses on identifying assets held in the names of third parties, commonly referred to as benamidars. This follows the 2025 arrest of the former high-ranking officer, who was implicated in a scheme to settle a criminal case through an intermediary.

Evidence gathered during the day-long operations in Ludhiana and Jalandhar is being analyzed to trace the movement of funds. Investigators stated that the goal of the PMLA proceedings is to establish a clear link between alleged corrupt practices and the acquisition of high-value properties. The agency declared that further evidence is being sought to solidify the money laundering charges against the former Ropar Range official and those suspected of facilitating his financial dealings.
