NEW DELHI, May 18, 2026 – Expressing profound concern over a sudden drone strike near the United Arab Emirates’ primary atomic energy hub, India has warned that targeting critical infrastructure marks a highly volatile development in the regional security landscape.
The Indian government issued an official diplomatic communication urging all regional adversaries to abandon military alternatives and utilize established diplomatic channels to de-escalate the emerging situation. The diplomatic intervention came after an explosive-laden drone bypassed local airspace defenses to damage an external power generator at the multi-billion-dollar Barakah facility in Abu Dhabi.
“India is deeply concerned at the attack targeting the Barakah nuclear facility in the UAE. Such actions are unacceptable and represent a dangerous escalation,” the Ministry of External Affairs declared.
The foreign ministry noted that a stable diplomatic framework remains the only mechanism to prevent further cross-border hostility, stating, “We urgently call for restraint and a return to dialogue and diplomacy.”
Local nuclear regulatory agencies stated that the core operational sectors of the plant were never breached, allowing the facility to maintain regular power generation without any environmental contamination. The United Nations nuclear watchdog confirmed it is actively tracking the operational status of the complex following the fire.
Emirati presidential advisers noted that the strike represents a significant provocation, regardless of whether it was directed by a primary state adversary or executed by regional proxy forces. Local defense officials stated that the military is actively tracking launch vectors after intercepting two concurrent drones that entered from the western frontier.
In a related security development, Saudi Arabian military commanders noted that their air defense grids intercepted three incoming drones. Investigators in Riyadh stated that the hostile aircraft originated from Iraqi territory, prompting vows to use all available defense assets to protect national borders against cross-border incursions.
