Mohali, Aug 11: In a security sweep ahead of Independence Day, Mohali police on Sunday carried out surprise checks at hotels and paying guest (PG) accommodations, detaining four youths from a PG in Mataur on suspicion.
Around 11:30 am, a team led by SP (City) Sirivennela inspected several properties in the Mataur area, verifying guest records and warning owners against accommodating anyone without valid identification. Hotel managers were directed to submit guest lists for the past month and ensure police verification before allotting rooms.
PG facilities faced similar scrutiny, with officers checking residents’ names, addresses, identity documents, and vehicles. “Strict action will be taken against hotel or PG owners found allotting rooms without police verification,” Sirivennela said.
Police said the checks form part of district-wide security measures in the run-up to August 15. Night patrols and vehicle inspections at city entry points will continue until 4 am daily to prevent any untoward incidents.
