GURDASPUR, Aug 13 — An 18-year-old student was shot dead and four others injured when masked assailants opened fire near Singhowal village on Tuesday, police said.
The victims were eating burgers when four men in a car pulled up and began shooting with a country-made pistol. Police said eight to ten rounds were fired, killing Gurjeet Singh of Talwandi village on the spot.
The injured — identified as Sahil, Gurpal Singh, Gurvinder Singh and Harnoor Singh — are undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
Officials said the shooting took place a day after two student groups from a private university clashed, and investigators are probing possible links between the incidents.
A manhunt has been launched for the attackers, police said.
